Prepared on behalf of Canopus by Toby Goodman
Sharing the True Value of Canopus with Musicians in the UK and Beyond
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit this page.
My name is Toby Goodman. I am a UK-based drummer, educator and communication strategist. I have worked professionally in music for more than 20 years and in advisory work for more than 10 years. I hold deep respect for the philosophy and craftsmanship that define Canopus.
My Background in Music
I have been fortunate to work with artists with respected international reputations. These include:
Billy Wyman and Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones
Robin Gibb The Bee Gees
Mark King and Mike Lindupp of Level 42
Performers from major West End Theatre and international productions

These experiences have shaped my understanding of tone, touch, musical intention and communication.
I am also the author of the international best-selling book Narrow Podcasting, and musicians, educators and leaders trust me for clarity and practical guidance.
My Background in Business and Consulting
Alongside my musical work, I support leaders and organisations in the USA, Europe and the UK. My clients include individuals who have held senior roles of national and scientific importance.
Notable advisory work includes:
A former Administrator of NASA (Charles F.Bolden)
A former Administrator of NOAA (Dr. Kathy Sullivan)
These organisations have long-standing collaborative relationships with Japan, especially in the fields of science and space exploration. It has been an honour to support respected figures connected to them.
My wider consulting work covers:
Communication and messaging strategy
Media production in audio, video and editorial
Story based education
Executive communication
Interviewing and presentation
I am known for clarity, calm delivery and an ability to translate complex ideas into simple language.
Why I Am Reaching Out
Your instruments represent some of the finest craftsmanship in the world. Many players in the UK and Europe admire the depth and heritage of Japanese drum making.
However, many also find it difficult to understand the differences between your drum series. The descriptions focus on features, while players often seek guidance on feel, tone and musical purpose. I believe clearer communication in this area would strengthen the position of Canopus in key markets.
How I Believe I Can Support You
In a respectful partnership, I could help in these areas:
1. Clearer guidance for players
Translate your product philosophy into accessible language that supports confident decision making.
2. Educational content that reflects your values
Performance based videos, interviews and explanatory media created with respect for your brand identity.
3. Support for UK and European visibility
Act as a local and trusted voice who understands the questions and priorities of these markets.
4. Long-term communication strategy
Develop clear, consistent messaging that honours your craft and supports artists, dealers and international audiences.
My Intention
I approach your company with humility and sincere respect. I am not seeking free equipment. My intention is to explore whether my experience in music and communication may be of support to your goals in the UK, Europe and possibly the USA.
If this perspective aligns with your direction, I would be honoured to speak at your convenience.
Thank you again for your time.

“In 2019 I started my Podcast. I thought, ‘how hard can it be?’ Well, you don’t know what you don’t know so I proceeded to create a proper turd. I ended up trashing the whole thing. Then Toby stepped in. The difference has been night and day.
Toby guided me, my brand, and content systematically, methodically, and creatively. Without a vision, a product will perish. Toby first helped me hammer out a vision, understand my audience, create and execute a strategy, develop disciplined habits, and most importantly grow. Our podcast has nearly doubled in downloads in the last three months. I went from discouragement to enthusiasm.
I find myself looking forward to the meetings with Toby. Not only do I always learn something, I get to laugh and have fun. Toby has a great sense of humor—a hallmark of creativity—but also keeps me focused on the big vision.
The Podcast is the singular reason that we signed a contract with a statewide organization. The CEO became a fan of the podcast and immersed herself in our content each morning on her commute. There was no typical sales cycle in closing that deal. Just a phone call and an offer.”
